Photo exhibit for lovers of Hawaii at Venus Fort!
From April 26th to May 6th 2008 the photo exhibit, "Ekolu ka Mana'o : Found the Real Hawaii!" will be opening at Venus Fort!
Three experts on Hawaii, Kanako Uchino, Nick Kato and Junko Wong will be showing Hawaii in their own unique form of expression.
Uchino Kanako is part of a boat crew that ties together the past and future dreams of Hawaii called, "Hokule'a".
As a photographer she has been documenting her experience on the ship through words and photos.
These photos will be a sneak peak to her book that will be published in June.
Nick Kato, a man who loves Hawaii and knows every inch of the islands have been writing and taking photos of Hawaii for some time.
Come and see hawaii through his eyes, as he documents Hawaii's beautiful environment and lifestyle.
The Blythe creative producer, Junko Wong grew up in Hawaii and was a member of the Japanese hula team.
She has also experienced competing in the Merrie Monarch tournament.
With her photography she tells the stories of the ancient Hawaiian legends using Blythe dolls not only as a vessel for a narrative but as a representation of the beautiful yet wild nature of Hawaii in a form of a spirits and fairies.

Kanako Uchino (Ocean Photographer)
After studying oceanography at the University of Hawaii Kanako Uchino became an independent photographer.
She has been taking photos and writing essays about the relationship between people and the ocean.
Without using a compass or maps attempting to "read" nature by going out to sea on the Hokule'a boat she has been on a number of expeditions.
She is also the very first Japanese crew member for Hokule'a.
Her experience will be published in a book through Shogakukan due in June.

Nick Kato (Photographer/ Essayist)
Nick Kato moved to the U.S. in 1968.
After graduating from the University of California he moved to Hawaii and has been living there for the past 35 years.
He documents his lifestyle in Hawaii through photography and expresses his thoughts of simplicity, organic and harmonious relationship with nature in his essay work.
Junko Wong (Producer)
Junko grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and danced at the 41st Merrie Monarch Festival.
She loves Hawaii from the bottom of her heart.
She is also the producer for the very popular Blythe doll and the head of all of the concept, design, naming and managing events in regards to Blythe.
She is also a creative agent representing may active illustrators from around the world. She owns two galleries one in New York and one in Tokyo.
