- Who designed Blythe?
- Allison Katzman designed the vintage Blythe, originally manufactured by Kenner, in1972.
Vintage Blythe was the foundation that was used for the creation of the Neo Blythe by CWC and TAKARA (now TAKARATOMY) in 2001. In 2002, the smaller version, Petite Blythe, was created. She is 1/3 the size of Neo. The design team Junie Moon led by Junko Wong is responsible for the creative direction, production and marketing concepts of neo-Blythe.
- How does the eye mechanism work?
- The eyes have four color variations and move to the right and to the left with the pull of a drawstring. The default colors are blue, green pink and orange. However, depending on the doll design, eye colors may differ.
- There are several types of dolls called by different names: Excellent, Superior, Radiance, etc.
- The first neo-Blythe, Parco Limited, used the body of the Takara doll Licca and the head was sculpted using a vintage Blythe as a model. The eyeholes were small and the eyes opened wide. Later, the body was changed and the Excellent Blythe was born. The body was designed according to the size and mechanism of the 1972 Blythe with improvements for durability in the body structure to prevent breakage. In 2003, a new face called Superior was created and debuted with Superior Skate. The face line was slimmer and she assumed a more mature look. In 2006, with Darling Diva, the Radiance face made its debut. This face has larger eyeholes. Each doll has its own identity through its skin tone and makeup such as the lip shape.
