The theme of the anniversary was "ART ATTACK!" Appropriately for its theme, 70 unique and artistic dolls with original characteristics walked the catwalk at the anniversary fashion show. Photographer Gina Garan, fashion editor of VOGUE NIPPON, Ako Tanaka, hair & make-up artist, Saburo Watanabe and fine artist Katsuhiko Hibino were the guest panelists of the day. Junko Wong was the moderator.
The event took off with Gina's husband ASA on guitar. The first doll was a chic and boyish "Paul Smith" in stripes of bold colors. One by one Blythe appeared wearing one off original styles.
Ako Tanaka made her fashion statement reminiscent of the fifties, using satin and fur, which in return will be the look this winter. Let her striking coordination inspire your selection this season.
One of the most popular dolls of the show was created by Katsuhiko Hibino. It was the first time he participated in a fashion show and was overwhelmed with fervor of the event site. "I am curious to know how my dolls will be evaluated by Blythe fans." he said. Hibino got the audience laughing when he introduced his dolls, as "Madoka Nagatani, a native of Edo (Edokko) and a fast eater." She wore a Nagatanien Tea Rice package. "Here is Milk Morinaga, born in Meiji era." Milk wore a caramel candy box designed in the Meiji era.
In addition to fashion brands, many artists participated in this year's event. Boy George, who caught the spirit of a generation as a vocalist of the Culture Club was a star participant! His doll inspired by his character attracted a lot of attention.
Blythe in Kimono was breathtaking. Mamechiyo's charming contemporary kimono used Chilorean tape for an obi (belt). On the contrary, Chiso of Kyoto, famous for their tradition in kimono presented the audience with a rendition of the Japanese beauty in the form of Maiko. Both delivered the beauty of the Kimono MAGNIFICENTLY.
Gina commented, "This year's even was even better than the last years'! Especially elaborations in details were amazing! I sensed the artists' enthusiasms. I was charmed by Blythe fans that brought their own styled Blythe with them."
Hibino commented, "Both a fashion show that starts this early in the morning and a fashion show for dolls were new to me. I experienced a time, totally different from my reality. I was also impressed by dolls brought here by Blythe fans."
We asked Blythe fans for comments after the show. Ms.Yagi who came to the event from Nagano said, " MILK was so cute! I really want it!" Ms.Miaki from Kanagawa said, " It was kind of hard to see details from where I was, so I am looking forward to the exhibition. I would like to make several visits to it."
This exhibition is planned to travel. The detailed schedule will be announced as soon as it is fixed. The dolls in the fashion show will be displayed at all exhibitions around the country and will be auctioned on-line at yahoo.co.jp at a later date sometime around April or May(2005). All the proceeds from the sales will be donated to "Make a wish of Japan" , which makes wishes of children afflicted with incurable diseases come true. We look forward to your participation. We will let you know the dates and details of the auction on this site sometime early spring of next year. |
