Fashion Show
Fifty special Blythe Dolls manufactured just for this fashion show were dressed and styled as one of a kind by various designers for the annual charity fashion show. Photographer, Gina Garan; actress, Sae Isshiki; fashion editor of VOGUE NIPPON, Ako Tanaka; and hair & makeup artist Saburo Watanabe were the guest panelists of the day. Junko Wong was hostess and moderator. They enjoyed looking at and talking about the fashion and uniqueness of the dolls that took the stage.
More than twenty brands and designers participated in the show. The first group of dolls appeared in casual sportswear donning visors and stadium jackets, or in sixties ski outfits.
Isabel Toledo' s futuristic style design got special notice by Saburo Watanabe at the show. "Her idea is so unique. Materials are interesting and the outfit is so adorable!" Since Isabel Toledo' s designs are usually feminine and elegant, this approach surprised us all.
Sae Isshiki, who also owns a fashion brand commented, "All of today' s entries go beyond the concept of clothes! The clothes in my brand are all simple and not this artistic. I am overwhelmed." Ms. Isshiki was quite inspired.
The later half of the show featured mode fashion remixed with this year' s trends, and filled with helpful ideas for this season. Designers used tights and socks with boots, real fur on the brim of a hat and on sleeves, and ribbons were used as accents. Ako Tanaka was excited as she explained, " This way of using fur is brilliant!"
The last Blythe to make her appearance was styled by Sonia Rykiel. Ms. Rykiel is a big Blythe fan. Her Blythe was dressed in the decadent mood of the forties and she was wearing a Garbo style hat.
Blythe can look innocent as a child or sensuous like a mature woman, all depending on what she wears, how her hair is styled and the make-up she puts on. Blythe can change her look and can alter her age in any way.
Gina said, " When Blythe made her debut two years ago, she was not this fashionable. This event is even better than the last. I think all the fashion here looks wonderful on Blythes."
Everyone was excited after the show. We interviewed the fans.
Akane from Yokohama commented from the viewpoint of a hairstylist, " Though Blythe is just a doll, each Blythe has different hair qualities and volume. I understand that they were created by talented hairstylists. Blythe' s hair can be styled like human hair, so I think it would be ideal to display Blythe at my hair salon!"
Soyoka from Tanashi-City and Jeni from Itabashi met each other through their interests in Blythe.
"The most impressive item was the orange coat by EV by et vous. Gina also liked it. I have four Blythe dolls and I enjoy styling Blythe with my daughter. When I braid Blythe' s hair in three strands, her bald patch becomes too obvious, but today' s styling was very well done and helpful for me." Soyoka commented.
"I took a day off to come here today. Unfortunately I couldn' t get a ticket for the fashion show but I came here to buy Honey Bunny. I have all the Neo-Blythe and petite Blythe!" Jeni commented.
The dolls in the fashion show will be auctioned on-line at yahoo.co.jp for donation to Make A Wish at a later date sometime around next spring. We look forward to your participation. We will let you know the dates and details of the auction on this site sometime at the beginning of 2004.
Gina' s photo book will be published next year, too.
