Q: First of all, congratulations on winning the 3rd Annual Blythe Beauty Contest! Please tell us what each member of Jabawocks does.
There are two members, Makoligato and Jaba.
Jaba works on the doll customization, makeup and illustration, and Makoligato works on the outfit design.
Q: What was it like to enter the Beauty Contest with the doll "le jardin de maman" ?
I found out about the Blythe Beauty Contest when I read about it in a doll magazine. I saw a lot of unique and charming entries from the past contest, and it inspired us to participate in that wonderful contest.
We have been customizing Blythe dolls for a while, and are fascinated by how her appearance changes like a chameleon by changing the clothes, eye chips and hair style. We usually customize dolls with fashion based on available human clothes, but this time with "le jardin de maman," we styled with a fairy tale in mind since we were so impressed by the past entries. We wanted her to look like you could tell her story by the clothes she wore. We really enjoyed participating the contest.
Q: What was the hardest part of transforming your Beauty Contest entry into a manufactured doll?
We really didn't expect to win the contest, so it was very hard to transform the grand prix design into a design which would be able to be manufactured. Thanks to the support and help from CWC staff, we were able to do it.
Q: What made you the happiest?
When we saw the final sample of the doll. It was unbelievable that the rough illustration we drew actually turned into a Blythe doll.
Q: CWC's version of "le jardin de maman" is slightly different from the grand prix doll. What kind of personality or charm do you think she has?
We personally think her soft, childish atmosphere is her charm.
Blythe has really a lot of aspects. She can be an innocent girl, or a mature woman, a muse...she can be anything. In le jardin de maman's case, she has aspects of childishness and kindness.
Q: Would you like to say something to all Blythe fans around the world?
If you have a chance, please meet "le jardin de maman" in person!
Q: This year, the rules of Blythe Beauty Contest have changed quite a bit. People can vote from all over the world, so all of the Blythe fans can enjoy the contest regardless where they live. Would you like to send a message to the contestants of this year's contest? What do you think is the meaning of participating in the contest?
I think the meaning of participating the contest is to be able to have a chance to use your imagination and creative skills - to be able to focus them through Blythe. By doing that, you might be able to explore depths within you that you didn't know you possessed.
Q: Last but not least, what is Blythe for you?
If I have to give an example, she is an attractive onion. When we customize one doll, Blythe tells me that she has another aspects that we haven't seen before. And when we customize another doll, she speaks to us again. Blythe is like an onion because no matter how many layers I peel away there is still something inside. Like the theme of this year's anniversary, Blythe is the perfect model for this generation. She can really be anything.
